Inspiration

I'm inspired by many things, sometimes by the physical; the changing colours of the landscape, the movement of the sea, the lines on a face, a blasted quarry face. At other times the need to express comes from within; an emotion, a feeling of the spirit.

Idealisation

The purpose of my mark-making is to convey something of the essence of the subject. To create an object which has its own power to move or speak of my reaction, a likeness.

Realisation

I am fascinated by colour, line. Most of my work is two-dimensional. I find "style" uninteresting, I prefer not to limit my work to one thing; abstract, figurative or to a particular medium, but to respond directly with whatever feels right.

Influences

Blake and the visionaries.
The Expressionists,
Rouault, O'Keefe, Piper and Freud.
